Running on Empty (Literally) — Saturday Morning Mayhem

By Mommy B – Two Wild & Free Single Mama Diaries

Good morning ☀️—and yes, it really is a good morning, even though it didn’t start that way!

Let me paint you a picture: it’s Saturday, and I’m scheduled to work at 7 AM. Now, Friday had completely worn me out, so naturally, I overslept a little. I jump out of bed and do what any mom on a mission does—hustle. I rush my boys to wash their faces, get dressed, and pack up for their weekend stay at my mom’s house. Shoutout to Super Grandma—we appreciate you, girl! 🙌🏾💖

Sekani is moving in slooow motion, struggling to put on a sweater… Baby, it’s going to be 80 degrees today! So I swap him into a T-shirt and herd him toward the door. Meanwhile, Noonie is halfway melting down—he’s tired, doesn’t want to walk, and I’ve already got three bags in hand, so there’s no way I can carry him too. I leave them at the door, run to toss the bags in the car, and they just trail behind me like little ducklings. Cool. We made it to the car. ✅

Now here’s where it really gets fun…

I knew yesterday that my tank was low—15 miles to empty—but I was too over the day to stop for gas. First station? Doesn’t take Apple Pay. Okay… next one by my mom’s? Closed. Now I’m down to FIVE miles, my patience is nearly gone, and I’ve accepted I’m going to be late to work. But breaking down with two kids at 7 AM? Not today, Satan.

Third gas station… ALL pumps out of order. Like, why?! 😩 At this point, I’m too tired to panic. I just calmly Apple Maps the nearest open gas station with actual working pumps. I find one two miles away. As I’m driving… my gas hits 0 miles. I just start praying:

“Please, Lord, let me get to this gas station. I’ll be good forever, I promise!” 🙏🏾

And guess what? We made it! 🎉 I have never been so excited to fill up a tank in my entire life.

Meanwhile, Sekani is in the back asking, “Mom, what’s going on? Why are all the stores closed?” I literally had to check my calendar like… is today a holiday?? Did I miss something?! 😂

Finally, we make it to Grandma’s. I set up the TV, make them cereal, give them hugs, kisses, and let them know they’re going to a birthday party later. Then, I’m back out the door and off to work—with gas, sanity (barely), and a lot of grace.

Sometimes mornings like this just happen. Things are totally out of your control, and you can either spiral or surrender. Today, I chose to flow with it—and you know what? I feel fine. Not overwhelmed. Just grateful we made it through, and honestly, kind of proud.

Mamas & Bloggers, when’s the last time you had to surrender to the chaos and just let it ride? Share your story with me—I know I’m not alone in this!

    With love,
    Mommy B 🖤
